Our Story

We’re Jake and Megan, and Mending Broken Wings is personal for us.

Our lives were shaped by hard beginnings and difficult seasons. We’ve experienced what it feels like to be stuck in cycles of trauma, identity struggles, and systems that don’t always see the whole person. But we’ve also experienced redemption, how God can take what was broken and build something meaningful.

We started Mending Broken Wings because we’re passionate about helping others avoid feeling alone in the middle of a crisis. When a family is dealing with CPS, when someone with a disability is overwhelmed by paperwork and barriers, or when a person is coming out of prison with nowhere to go we believe that’s where support should show up, not disappear.

Our heart is simple: serve people with truth, compassion, and practical help so they can move forward with hope and stability.

Pastor Jake Tjapkes is the founder of Mending Broken Wings, called to stand in the gap for children, families, and individuals impacted by foster care, disability, trauma, and systemic injustice. Shaped by personal experience with foster care, adoption, FASD, and identity struggles, Jake brings both lived understanding and bold advocacy to his work.

His leadership focuses on CPS and foster care reform, FASD awareness, and life coaching with spiritual care, working to bring accountability to broken systems while offering hope and guidance to those often overlooked. Jake’s heart is to restore dignity, protect children, and help individuals discover purpose, healing, and identity rooted in truth and faith.
